Official Distance Selling Pharmacy Guidance

The current guidance on GPhC distance selling pharmacies is quite sparse. From the GPhC website it is stated…

“We are widening the scope of this guidance to cover not only the internet but also those pharmacies carrying out other forms of distance selling, such as mail order.  There are a number of complex legal issues, including cross-border retail and European Union (EU) legislation, which need to be considered before finalising this guidance.”

So as of yet there is very little in official guidance on this matter. This is kind of expected as although distance selling pharmacies and online pharmacies have been around for almost a decade, pharmacy regulation is notoriously slow to react. You only have to look at the ongoing debate into e-cigarettes to see that it is difficult for pharmacy authoritative bodies to come to an agreement and take a stance.
